The difference in humans than other species, is that we are able to think and plan ahead. But unfortunately most of us do not plan ahead when it comes to our retirement, mostly because we are too caught up in the now. We find it difficult enough just to plan six months in advance, let alone 40 years. Thinking about retirement and acting on these thoughts are advantageous. The younger you are when you start making retirement plans the better you will be financially at retirement.
There are some important questions to ask yourself, How much retirement income will I need? When should I start? What should I do to get started? Most of us wait until 5 years before retirement before we ask ourselves these questions, while we would all like to retire financially secure, the whole planning process can seem quite daunting, but it doesn't have to. There a many financial planners that can assist you.
It is wise as a young employee to get in a retirement plan through your work, a 401K perhaps. If you work for the government, they offer a Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), but it is also important to talk to a professional who can be a great asset to your planning. Whatever you do to plan for your retirement is good, but the sooner you plan the better off you'll be.
